First Snap Original filmed on Snapchat Spectacles released

First Person, a documentary series being released on Snapchat’s video platform, is being filmed on Snapchat Spectacles.

The announcement:

Partially filmed in Australia, the series shows the world through the eyes of extraordinary young people creating positive change as they fight to protect our planet. Produced by Yusuf Omar and Hashtag Our Stories, this docuseries puts the camera on the faces and in the hands of its subjects.

Along the 10-episode journey, Yusuf meets inspiring young people from all over the world seeking positive global change. Featuring innovators that are making synthetic hair out of plants by turning leaves into weaves, training rats to sniff out landmines, and discovering new ways to build houses by utilizing human urine, First Person showcases unexpected solutions to the environmental problems you didn’t even know existed.

First Person has just premiered and new episodes are launching every other day, only on Snapchat’s Discover page.

Omar and Snap have created three episodes here in Australia focussing on topics including: how food waste emits more global emissions than any other product, how 3D printing waste plastic could change the world and how robots could save the Great Barrier Reef.

Yusuf Omar, a multi-award-winning journalist and co-founder of Hashtag Our Stories along with his wife Sumaiya, was an early adopter of Spectacles (he’s been wearing them every day of his life since 2016). For Yusuf, Spectacles are the ultimate storytelling vehicle as they can do things that other cameras don’t, like capture depth and incorporate AR. He and his wife have spent the past two years training more than 3,000 people in 140 countries to tell stories via their phones with “MoJo,” or mobile journalism.
