Former Foxtel boss Richard Freudenstein joins Cricket Australia board

Richard Freudenstein, the former CEO of Foxtel, has been appointed to Cricket Australia’s board.

Freudenstein stepped down as Foxtel CEO in March 2016 having previously been chief executive of News Digital Media and The Australian newspaper as well as serving as the COO of British Sky Broadcasting during his two-decade tenure with News Corporation.

Freudenstein will join the Cricket Australia board on 10 June

Since leaving Foxtel, Freudenstein has taken a series of non-executive directorships on boards including News Corp majority owned REA Group, Coles Group and Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad.

Chair of the Cricket Australia Nominations Committee, Jacquie Hey said: “We are confident that Richard, as the state director for NSW, will add an exceptional skillset on the board and bring a fresh approach that will further improve our commitment to inspiring and uniting communities through cricket.

“Richard’s business acumen, skills and corporate knowledge will add to the Cricket Australia Board and be a further asset for the sport at both the national and state level,” she said.

Freudenstein added: “It is a privilege to be joining the Board of Cricket Australia and I look forward to bringing my skills and experience to the organisation.

“Cricket is in a very strong position and has deep roots in the sporting and cultural life of our country. Like many Australians, I love the game and the impact it has in communities, and I look forward to working with my fellow board colleagues to help take advantage of the opportunities ahead.”

The sports body also announced the appointment of Earl Eddings as an independent director and recommended Michelle Tredenick and John Harden to be re-elected directors at the next annual general meeting.
