Former Holler founder Mike Hill returns with social media startup, Curator.io

Founder of digital agency Holler, Mike Hill, has launched Curator.io, a social media aggregation platform.

Hill left Holler in 2016 and last year the agency was forced to let go of the bulk of its staff after losing its main client, Audi. At the time, the agency’s management wrote in a LinkedIn post “we have every reason to be terrified” as they contemplated the company’s future.

Curator.io CEO Hill: “We’ve been running silently in beta”

“We’ve been running silently in beta, if you will, since about a year ago,” Hill told Mumbrella about his new venture. “We built up the client base mainly through referrals and emails.”

The service is currently claiming ‘a few hundred paying clients, with Hill claiming the service’s main attraction is its price and relative simplicity compared to incumbent competitors.

“Having worked in adland for years, I know how expensive and complex the competing platforms are,” Hill said in a media statement. “We launched Curator to offer a low-cost, no-nonsense solution for ad agencies to quickly curate fan content for their campaigns. Agencies can use our free tier to see if it’s what they need for their campaign without charge.”

Hill’s co-founder and Curator.io CTO, Thomas Garrood, recently moved to California’s Bay Area to head up the company’s first overseas office where the tech company was behind Netflix’s Comic-Con installation in San Diego and the aggregator for the Global Women’s March last weekend.

“We have spent a long time making Curator simple enough for anyone to use. It’s exciting to finally unveil the new look and move out of beta stage. We have a huge number of features still in the pipeline which we will rollout over the coming months,” Garrood said in a statement.

Curator is the third business to launch as part of the Aardwolf Ventures investment company run by  Hill. Last year the VC launched Puffling, a job pairing platform with Lija Wilson and Sarah Parker. Last month Aardwolf also launched Aircamp.com.au, a campsite aggregator aiming to become Australia’s largest destination for all camping and caravan bookings.
