Former Mumbrella CEO Martin Lane and The Code Company founder Ben May launch publishing consultancy subscription service
Martin Lane, co-founder and former CEO of Mumbrella, and Ben May, founder of publishing tech agency The Code Company, have partnered to launch Publisha – a subscription service for publishers.
Publisha will give digital publishers on-demand access to technical and business expertise via a subscription service.
The service will provide independent media owners and their senior staff with expert advice on all aspects of publishing, with subscriptions starting at $199 per month.
A base-level subscription includes a monthly video call with a publishing consultant, weekly email questions and personalised coaching. Subscribers benefit from practical advice on a range of essential publishing topics including website development, email marketing, content, sales, social media, events, training, finance and business.
In addition to advising on the day-to-day needs of media owners, Publisha offers technical insights on publishing software and strategic advice on building, growing and selling publishing businesses.
May brings technical experience from The Code Co, one of Australia’s most technically advanced WordPress development agencies for digital publishers, while Lane has built and sold publishing and events businesses in the UK, Australia and Asia.
Publisha also has access to a global team of talent with expertise in every aspect of digital publishing.
Lane said: “I know from experience how many variables publishers have to consider every day, whether they’re in start-up mode, experiencing growing pains or planning an exit. Our aim is to help them avoid the pitfalls and only spend money when they absolutely have to.”
May said Publisha will empower emerging publishers to own and operate their own platform and reduce the need for external agencies or large in-house tech teams.
“Publishing is hard work. Business owners are time poor and often isolated from their peers so getting support is difficult. It’s hard to keep up with all the technical tools on offer and to know which will deliver positive ROI for your business.”
Lane has also recently launched medical marijuana B2B publication Cannabiz.
