Former Nine News director launches legal action against network after departure
The former Nine News Queensland director has reportedly launched legal action against the network after her departure last month.
At the time, it was reported that Amanda Paterson was dismissed effective immediately after 31 years with Nine and had held the news director role since 2016.
A Nine spokesperson told Mumbrella at the time: “Nine can confirm a leadership change was announced within the Queensland TV News & Current Affairs department.”
Now, according to The Australian, Paterson has alleged she was unlawfully terminated by director of news and current affairs, Fiona Dear, over “minor” issues unrelated to Nine’s ongoing investigation into workplace culture.
It’s reported that Paterson’s termination related to three alleged workplace breaches – a failure to complete training modules, a “botched” contract extension of a staff member and made a reference to the removal of “dickheads” from Nine in front of staff in the newsroom.
A complaint has been lodged with the Fair Work Commission, and the matter is expected to go to mediation. However, it is reported that Nine will look to have Paterson sign a deed of release to end the dispute.
Nine declined to comment when contacted by Mumbrella.
