Jessica Head – a former PR agency head – has launched a “word gifting brand” named Short Talk.

Born from a nostalgia for the written word, Short Talk is a word gifting brand crafted for moments that matter. The debut collection features twenty greeting cards, thoughtfully designed for life’s pivotal moments and all the bits in-between. Intentionally blank inside so the writer can say more; cards to keep, love notes to treasure.
Each Short Talk card is ethically made in Melbourne using either FSC certified stock or recycled coffee cups. Each design features a unique mix of luxe print techniques and finishes including manual letterpress, embossing, foil, and blind debossing. All cards range between 350-380gsm in paper weight so there is nothing flimsy about them – they are made to last.
Founded by Melburnian, Jessica Head, Short Talk is the melding of her twin passions: words and thoughtful business. “I’ve always loved giving and receiving beautiful cards. I have collected them for years and keep them in an old shoebox amongst other treasures. I think we were taught to ‘open the card first’ for good reason – our words are gifts too and perhaps, the most meaningful part of the exchange”.
This belief steered Head to the notion of ‘word gifting’ as a category she wanted to explore and expand upon – starting with greeting cards.
“As an avid card lover and collector, I was finding it hard to source cards that not only captured what I wanted to say, but also looked and felt good. Every card in Woollies is $6.99, flimsy and very ‘Hallmark’. And, at the other end of the market are stunning illustration and detailed options retailing upwards of $10. I wanted to tap into the middle – beautiful, premium yet still accessible. I saw the gap and so, Short Talk was born,” said Head.
Tapping into big-little life moments such as a new baby (Welcome To The New Sleep Club), Lovers (soul mates & Smitten), friendship (Run The World & You are Sunshine), birthdays (Your Day, Your Way) and many more covering sorrow, gratitude and joy, Short Talk uses less words to say more – cards to be kept with love notes to treasure.
