Dr Mumbo

A Fox in the Sky News henhouse?

Dr Mumbo has long admired Sky News Australia’s resistance to following the path of distant cousin Fox News, instead mostly sticking with reporting over hysterical right wing commentary.

Even the last couple of years’ drift towards right-leaning commentators, mainly from News Corp, for the evening slots has been benign by comparison.

And those commentators may simply be a case of giving the punters what they want. After all Paul Murray Live topped the pay TV ratings earlier this week.

And perhaps Dr Mumbo isn’t alone in finding Andrew Bolt’s more emotional moments highly entertaining television, regardless of politics.

But up to now the network – affiliated with the Murdoch-led Sky News UK but jointly owned (for now at least) with Nine and Seven – has resisted the temptation to be too partisan in its news coverage.

However, Dr Mumbo’s eyebrows did raise at Kieran Gilbert’s reporting this morning.

Repeated references to Labor losing its lead in key seats as “an improvement” certainly makes it easier for conspiracy theorists to think he’s giving the game away.

Dr Mumbo suspects that Labor-voting viewers might disagree.
