Production begins on Spirited Season Two

Foxtel has announced that production has started on the second season of  Australian drama series, Spirited, which will air on W Channel.

FOXTEL today announced production is underway on the second series of the romantic and escapist Australian drama series Spirited which will premiere this year exclusively on W channel.

Helmed by producers Claudia Karvan and Jacquelin Perske, the 10 episode series is being shot in Sydney.

Karvan also continues in her starring role alongside Matt King and Rodger Corser.

“We have a few frenzied months ahead of us and I feel galvanised and excited,” Karvan said. “I think our story lines are playful and surprising and I can’t wait to help bring them to life.”

As the story resumes, dentist Suzy Darling (Karvan) and her rock star ghost Henry Mallet (King) are back together but the course of their love affair can never be straightforward. Suzy’s ex-husband Steve (Corser) is unwilling to believe she can be happy without him and her apartment building is now home to an entourage of ghosts, some here to help and some here to destroy. Suzy and Henry must fight to find a way to stay together but what price will they ultimately pay for their love.

Other returning cast include Belinda Bromilow as Jonquil Payne, Angus Sampson as Zac Hannigan, Louis Fowler and Charlie Hancock as Elvis and Verity Darling and Jane Harders as Rita.

New cast members include Simon Lyndon in the role of a powerful and charismatic ghost known as ‘The King’ and Heather Mitchell as Helen Payne, the mother Suzy and Jonquil have not seen since childhood.

“It’s very exciting to be developing the Spirited world further, and deeper and wilder, and to be working with such a superb ensemble of actors,” Perske said.

Perske also heads the Spirited writing team of Tony McNamara, Lally Katz, Alice Bell, Jessica Redenbach, Tommy Murphy, Ian Meadows and Mandy McCarthy.

The series will be directed by Stuart McDonald, Michael J. Rowland, Jonathan Teplitzky, Rowan Woods and Jonathan Brough. Toby Oliver is the director of photography.

John Edwards is the executive producer for Southern Star Entertainment and Kim Vecera is executive producer for FOXTEL.
