Foxtel’s Amanda Laing joins Sport Australia’s board

Foxtel’s chief commercial officer, Amanda Laing, has been appointed to the Sport Australia board, the federal government has announced.

Liang, Nine’s former managing director, is one of four new appointments to the government sports body’s board announced by minister Bridget McKenzie.

Laing was Nine’s MD before joining Foxtel in 2018

Having joined Foxtel as a consultant in April, Laing was appointed CCO in June with responsibility for the pay-TV operator’s content strategy.

She will be joining the Sport Australia board alongside athlete Kurt Fearnley, sports administrator Andrew Ireland, and merchant banker Pippa Downes, McKenzie said.

Laing left Nine in 2017 having been instrumental in the network’s 2015 negotiations for the NRL broadcast rights, and joined Foxtel a week after the subscription TV operator and Seven successfully bid for the Australian domestic cricket rights.

Formerly the Australian Sports Commission, Sport Australia is the Australian government’s agency responsible for distributing funds and providing strategic guidance and leadership for sporting activity in Australia.

Chair of Sport Australia, John Wylie, said: “These four new appointees are highly accomplished and respected Australians across a range of fields and we are fortunate that progressing Australian sport is a passion they all share.

“I have every confidence their valuable perspectives and experience will benefit the Sport Australia Board and, in turn, Australian sport.”

The four new appointments will join the board along existing members Wylie, Stephen Moneghetti, Pat Farmer, Andrea Mitchell, Jennifer Morris, Andrew Plympton, Danielle Roche, Gabrielle Trainor and Glenys Beauchamp.
