Freeview only Australian contender for Interactive TV Awards

TV industry body Freeview is the only Australian nominee at the Interactive TV Awards for its HbbTV platform Freeview Plus.

Freeview has been nominated as a finalist in two categories in the prestigious International Interactive TV Awards 2015, the only Australian entrant to score a place on the awards shortlist.

The nominations, announced in Paris last night Australian time, are both for Freeview’s hybrid TV platform FreeviewPlus, in the categories of Best Enhanced TV and Best User Experience.

Chief Executive Officer Liz Ross said Freeview was delighted with last night’s announcement.

“The recognition of FreeviewPlus in such an important global awards competition as the ITV Awards is testament to our commitment to deliver outstanding innovation and the best interactive TV user experience in the world,” Ms Ross said.

“These nominations are an acknowledgment that FreeviewPlus is right up at the forefront of the global development of hybrid TV technology and services,” she said.

Launched on September 2 last year, FreeviewPlus is a world-first TV service for Australia, incorporating the most advanced, user-friendly free-to-air TV guide yet seen, and providing access to more content and services than ever before.

The International ITV Awards 2015, run by interactive TV professional organisation AFDESI in France,  is open to all companies around the world offering live interactive television services in 2014, including manufacturers, operators, broadcasters, developers, and publishers.

The competition has grown to incorporate all new formats of television interactivity, through remote control, fixed and mobile phone, second screen and internet.

Winners of the ITV Awards 2015 will be announced at a ceremony in Paris next month.
