Fusion Group acquires stake in creative shop Marmalade

Communications network, Fusion Group, has acquires a one-third stake in creative shop Marmalade.

The announcement:

Melbourne’s Fusion Group, as its name suggests, brings businesses together to form a coalition of expertise that offers clients a much wider range of marketing capabilities than can be obtained from any one company. And as part of that process Fusion has acquired a one third stake in creative shop Marmalade.

It’s part of Fusion’s continued global expansion (the group now has offices in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, China, US, UK, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Philippines). CEO, Simon Norman, says, “We’ve been looking to form this sort of partnership for a while. We took our time because we wanted to find people who share our vision, people we can work with and who can expand the range of services we offer our clients. People like Victor, Lisa and the team at Marmalade.”

Marmalade managing director, Victor Maree is no less enthusiastic. “Since we opened our doors in 2002 we’ve always valued our independence. From time to time we’ve been approached, but the idea of being absorbed into a larger business has always horrified us. This is a perfect match. It’s so important to work with people you like and respect. The fit with Simon and his team and the opportunity to be part of a larger group is terrific.”

The first step in integrating Marmalade’s services into the Fusion family will be working closely with Fusion’s digital team from 24Digital. As soon as the Melbourne lockdown eases Claire Wytcherly and the rest of her team at 24Digital will be relocating to the Marmalade offices. It’s not a joining of the two agencies, but rather a stronger joint offer from both.

As Lisa Gumbleton, client service director of Marmalade, points out, “Our new relationship with Fusion not only builds critical mass, it also means we’re able to offer our clients a greatly expanded range of services, and execute strategies and ideas much more broadly. This is a fusion reaction that’s going to release a lot of energy.”
