The future of journalism is… writing ads
Dr Mumbo’s attention has been drawn to an excellent government resource dedicated to helping Australians understand their prospects, depending on their career choices,
And the section on journalists and other writers certainly suggests that somewhere in Canberra sits an optimist.
Somewhat boldly, the Department of Employment’s Jobs Outlook page lists future growth prospects for journalists as “strong”.
Dr Mumbo’s first thought was that perhaps the section was written long ago, before the five years of axe-swinging that Fairfax Media and News Corp have just been through.
But a trip back to 2013 in the Wayback Machine archive, reveals that at that point the outlook was far more glum.
So what’s changed since, Dr Mumbo, wonders? Perhaps the answer lies in the first couple of tasks describing the role of the modern journalist…
On the bright side, at least journalists still have a future…
