FX Australia’s Mr Inbetween commences production

Mr Inbetween, subscription television channel FX Australia’s first local series, is now in production.

The show – which was announced in June – will run across six episodes and is written by Scott Ryan, based on his feature film The Magician.

Nash Edgerton will debut as TV series director

It will tell the story of a hitman called Ray Shoesmith, who has to run his business while balancing his friendships, parental duties and romantic life at the same time.

The show has funding support from Screen Australia and Create NSW and is a Jungle and Blue-Tongue Films production with Michele Bennett acting as producer and executive producers including Jason Burrows, Nash Edgerton and Scott Ryan.

The cast includes Brooke Satchwell, Justin Rosniak, Edmund Lembke-Hogan, Nicholas Cassim, Damon Herriman and Natalie Tran, and there will be guest appearances from David Michod, Firass Dirani, Benedict Hardie, and Matt Nable.

Jacqui Feeney, Fox Networks Group’s managing director, ANZ, said she was thrilled to be brining the Australian drama to Foxtel.

“Nash Edgerton and Scott Ryan are bringing to life the chills and charm that defines Ray Shoesmith as Mr Inbetween; supported by the colourful array of characters who inhabit Ray’s compelling world,” Feeney said.

“It’s a perfect edgy fit for the FX brand and we’re thrilled to be bringing this truly original Aussie drama to the FX fans on Foxtel.”

Mike Cowap, investment manager of online production at Screen Australia wasn’t surprised by the “interesting cast”.

“We’re thrilled that production is underway now that Nash has returned to Australia from the US,” Cowap said.

“It is no surprise that Jungle and Blue-Tongue Films have been able to attract such an interesting cast given the rich, character-driven material and an exciting director in Nash, whose career is on the rise.”

Michael Brealey, Create NSW’s chief executive said the filming was great news for local creative practitioners working in a global context.

“With Nash Edgerton leading an impressive cast with his directorial TV debut, we can’t wait to see Scott Ryan’s darkly comic world brought onto the small screen in what is sure to be edgy and entertaining television,” Brealey added.

Mr Inbetween is FX Australia’s first local commission of an Australian TV series and has been developed with the support of FX Networks in the US.

It will premiere on FX in early 2018, exclusively on Foxtel and Foxtel Now.
