Geelong AFL victory helps Seven to Friday night ratings win

Seven’s AFL: Friday Night Football helped the network to its first ratings win of the week.

The Geelong Cats versus Western Bulldogs game topped viewing in Melbourne with 403,000 viewers, and rated another 110,000 in Adelaide. In Sydney, Brisbane and Perth, where the AFL was on secondary channel 7Mate, it delivered a further 129,000 metro viewers.

Meanwhile, Nine’s NRL coverage of Bulldogs vs Dragons rated 260,000 in Sydney and 129,000 in Brisbane.

Seven won the night with a share of 23.6%, while Nine averaged 16.1% and Ten 10%, according to the preliminary overnight metro ratings from OzTam.

The overall ratings winner for the week remains up for grabs.

Having won Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday’s ratings, Ten still narrowly leads with a progressive share for the week of 19.7%, just ahead of Seven’s 18.2% and Nine’s 16.8% – giving the network a chance of winning an official ratings week for the first time in six years. However, Seven will expect a strong result in Melbourne tonight with the primetime AFL clash of North Melbourne versus St Kilda.
