Get Up! launches Game of Thrones ad to explain Senate rules
Activist group Get Up! has launched a Game of Thrones parody online video to explain to young voters the rules of voting in the Senate, ahead of the upcoming federal election next month.
The online video was created by Motion Picture Company, which has also done some of Get Up!’s other election ads, and sees the group use similar characters to the popular television series to take voters through the mechanic of voting for the upper house.
“We did a lot of polling of the public and our members so we could learn about their understanding of the role of the Senate and it is quite clear is that in a number of cases people didn’t understand the role of the Senate,” said Get Up! spokesman Rohan Wenn, “And what better way is there to explain it than Game of Thrones?”
The video will run only online but Get UP! expects it to do well across social media given Game of Thrones’ cult following, especially with young people. “It won’t be running on TV just because of its length,” said Wenn “we expect it will do very well because of the show’s popularity.”
The former executive director of Get Up! Simon Sheik is a candidate for the Greens in the ACT this election. Get Up! maintains there is no link between his campaign and their new video for the Senate, “GetUp is independent and we don’t endorse any parties or candidates,” said Wenn.
Over the weekend the major parties also launched new television commercials with Labor continuing its attack on opposition leader Tony Abbott.
The new commercial is taglined “If Tony Abbott wins, you lose” and argues that families, low income earners, public servants and students will be negatively impacted by the election of a Coalition government.
The Coalition’s latest video features Tony Abbott discussing the economic policies that a Coalition government would implement: including cutting government expenditure, the abolition of the carbon tax and reducing debt.
I only get to see the top 5 capital city lists but how many people are actually watching tv now days? What percentage of the population are these ads reaching? All this polling based on people with land lines is highly dubious in my opinion. I really don’t believe any of the reports on how the campaign is going. It’s all based on outdate methods.

I’m not sure the ad makes it any clearer. I think it will confuse those who don’t understand voting in the Senate even more.
There’s much to pick at, but using ‘senate’ and ‘upper house’ interchangeably is a mistake many have made. This is another example.

Get up are a tiresome extreme left party pretending to be an activist group, and representing the Labor-Greens. They should be ignored.
As they are enemies of the people, any company working for them should be blacklisted.
