Go Back To Where You Came From special episode

The success of SBS’s three-part program Go Back To Where You Came From has spurred a live television forum on Tuesday 28 June to continue the conversation.

The program, which puts a group of Australians in the shoes of refugees in pursuit of asylum finishes this evening. Last night’s episode was the highest rating program this year for the network with 569,000, beating the Monday’s previous best of 524,000. UPDATE: Thursday’s episode reached 600,000.

In the live forum, “The six participants who took part in the confronting 25 day refugee journey in reverse will reflect on their experiences and the impact the series has had on their lives and on the debate about refugees and asylum seekers in Australia,” SBS Managing Director Michael Ebeid said in a statement.

“Everyone involved with this production realised very early on that this was going to be powerful, life-changing, agenda setting television. But I think we are all heartened and pleased at the pervasiveness of the response.

“National and international mainstream media have used it has a platform to consider the global refugee debate and the incredible response on social media has demonstrated an appetite for intelligent and relevant television content.

“The live forum will help those who watched the series discover the extent to which it has affected the views of the six participants towards refugees and how their lives have changed since embarking on their incredible journey.

The program will air on Tuesday 28 June, 8.30pm on SBS1
