Godzilla destroys box office top ten on opening weekend

The latest remake of Godzilla has grabbed $6.767m over the weekend, more than the rest of the top ten films combined, as it took more than $200m across the world on its opening weekend.

Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros are said to be lining up a sequel to the monster film which grabbed the biggest opening in Australia this year across 498 screens and stars Aaron Taylor-JohnsonElizabeth Olsen and Bryan Cranston.

Second in the rankings was number one for the last two weeks Bad Neighbours which took $3.125m across 397 screens, ahead of The Other Woman which just broke the million-dollar mark taking its total to $18.4m.

Further down the rankings Chef from StudioCanal which took just over $600,000 and the Grand Budapest Hotel which got $549,000 across 256 screens, ahead of The Amazing Spiderman: The Rise of Electro which got $474,000 taking its total to $15.5m.
