Gogglebox helps Ten top Thursday evening’s key demographics but Seven wins the night

The absence of Married At First Sight and My Kitchen Rules saw news and current affairs dominate Thursday night’s TV, giving Seven wins across the demographic, channel and network shares, according to OzTAM’s preliminary overnight ratings.

The best performing non-news show of the night was Ten’s Gogglebox which saw 647,000 metro viewers tune in. Seven’s Home and Away and The Chase Australia gave the channel an early evening win.

In the demographics, Ten’s Googlebox led all the key age groups with 190,000 16-39 year olds tuning in, 319,000 18-49s and 363,000 of the 25-54 age group watching.

Seven’s early evening line up and its lead in news saw its main station take an 18.4% share ahead of Nine’s 15.9%, the ABC’s 13.6%, Ten’s 13.2% and SBS’s 5.4%

Network shares fell the same way, with Seven taking 28.6% and Nine 24.4%. The ABC beat out Ten with 19.4% over 19.1% and SBS took 8.5% of the audience.
