Google’s the winner in group buying
While Google is arguably a tad late to the party in the group buying space, don’t feel too sorry for it.
Search Google on a keyword like “deals” or “offers”, and the company’s doing very nice business out of AdWords.
Mind you, Bing’s happy to take the dollars too. Scroll down far enough and you might even find a natural search result or two…
I like to think I’m a rather informed buyer and peruser of ‘deals’ on the internet so will always check out the ‘organic’ results. Will only go to ‘sponsored’ sites or ‘paid for’ adverts if that is the specific company I’m looking for.

We set up Dealsguide as an aggregator to give all of the group buying discount sites equal footing. The smaller companies are just as visible, and you get more information about the actual deals than you would in the sponsored or natural google search results.
It works well for us!

I have to say that affiliate and performance networks are doing ok out of group buying as well. The big difference is that we are delivering actual database members to them at a pre-determined cost. I think you will find that Social Media is driving a lot of acquisitions for them as well, probably more cost-effectively than Google.

re @jackson bates – dealsguide is a cute idea, nice site. I’m assuming you still have to get your traffic from somewhere? That’s the biggest challenge for all of these guys, and that’s why IMHO, for the moment, the first movers – Spreets & Jump On It/Living Social, have an advantage, in that they already have a large consumer database.

@matt bateman – we do need to build our traffic…but we are growing well with each bit of exposure we receive.
