Known widely in the industry as ‘Sparrow’, Graham will continue in his current role as business development and marketing officer at GroupM and will split his time equally between GroupM’s and WPP AUNZ’s Sydney offices.

WPP AUNZ came into being earlier this year after the UK-based communications group completed its takeover of STW Group.

The group, the largest in Australia, includes more than 80 agencies covering media, creative, PR and wider communications disciplines. Its media agencies include Maxus, MEC, Mediacom, Ikon and Mindshare, plus a stake in Bohemia.

WPP AUNZ’s creative offerings span Ogilvy, GPY&R, Grey, J. Walter Thompson, The White Agency and VML. Key WPP PR agencies include Ogilvy PR, Barton Deakin, Burson-Marstellar and Howorth.

In the new role, Graham will report to group business director Rob Currie on marketing and new business opportunities across the group.

Currie said: “We’re incredibly lucky to have someone with Greg’s extensive new business and marketing expertise. He knows this business inside out and his valuable insights will benefit all our WPP AUNZ companies. I look forward to working with him to pursue even greater growth opportunities for the group.”

GroupM Australia and NZ CEO, Mark Lollback, said: “Greg has always been an invaluable asset to GroupM and we’re happy to share his skills and knowledge with our parent company WPP AUNZ. He is great at bringing people together and uniting businesses towards a single goal, and I have no doubt he will be able to bring a greater degree of horizontality to WPP AUNZ as it continues to lead the market across a range of disciplines.”

With a career spanning more than 35 years, Graham has worked at the likes of Leo Burnett, J. Walter Thompson and  Mindshare and is currently serving as chairman of the Media Federation of Australia (MFA) Award. He was last month named as LinkedIn’s number one agency influencer in Australia.

Graham will start in his new role in January.
