Gretchen Carlson addresses Mumbrella360, endorses Trinity P3 initiative

Gretchen Carlson, former Fox News journalist, global activist, and founder of Lift Our Voices addressed Mumbrella360 conference this morning, urging action in the advertising industry against sexual abuse and harassment, also endorsing Trinity P3’s statutory declarations policy.

The video was introduced by emcee of the event, Darren Woolley, founder and global CEO of Trinity P3.

Carlson filed a lawsuit against the former chairman and CEO of Fox News, Roger Ailes, prompting numerous other women to come forward with similar allegations of harassment.

She has since led a global movement in trying to legislate a ban on NDAs silencing victims of workplace harassment and assault. This year, the US Congress passed a new act, the Ending Forced Arbitration of Sexual Assault and Sexual Harassment Act into law, which was pushed by Carlson. This act excludes sexual assault and sexual harassment complaints from NDAs, which was then signed into law by President Biden.

Following the video, Woolley addressed the Mumbrella 360 audience: “The time for talk is over. It is time for us all to take the action needed to create a safe and healthy workplaces for all. Thank you, Gretchen and thank you to all in the industry who have offered support in recent weeks. I look forward to seeing how the issue and topic is covered in the Gender and Culture stage in the coming days.”

The Mumbrella360 2022 event is on right now at Sydney’s Hilton Hotel.

The Trinity P3 initiative come as the results of the Australian Advertising Council’s (ACA) industry-wide survey on the diversity of Australia’s advertising industry, Create Space, were released last week, with the industry body’s Create Space Report and Action Plan.

Amongst other findings, the report’s data showed that women in advertising are six times more likely than men to experience gender discrimination, 58% of advertising professionals live with a physical or mental health condition, and one-fifth of employees are likely to leave the industry based on their experiences of discrimination and exclusion

The ACA’s Tony Hale and Hannah Sturrok joined last week’s Mumbrellacast to discuss how the Create Space Report and Action Plan was devised, and how it hopes to change industry behaviours going forward. You can listen to the podcast below, or via your favourite podcast app.
