Group M appoints Ryan Menezes as chief technology and transformation officer, replacing Cameron King

Ryan Menezes has left his post as head of digital and commerce at Publicis Groupe’s Starcom to become chief technology and transformation officer at WPP’s media investment arm, Group M.

He replaces Cameron King, who has stepped down to relocate to the US with his family.

WPP AUNZ is still currently implementing a hiring freeze, but CEO Jens Monsees has said the company will continue to invest in key roles, including those with a focus on strategy and digital. Last month, for example, WPP hired Toby Hemming to lead the holding group’s communications and marketing.

Menezes’ role involves taking responsibility for the business’ programmatic, search, social, adtech, and martech capabilities, and will also see Menezes work closely with Group M’s investment and partnerships team, and with its agencies, including Mindshare, Mediacom, Wavemaker, Essence, and addressable TV company Finecast.

Group M’s CEO, Mark Lollback, said the business has “combed the market” to find Menezes, who begins in the job on 1 November.

“Ryan is an innovative thinker with market leading digital marketing and transformation experience,” said Lollback.

“He has a track record of delivering results and providing strategic leadership across local and international markets. At GroupM, we make advertising work better through data-based insights and sound media strategies and have combed the market for the best digital and tech talent with experience in marketing technology to help deliver that in Australia. I’m thrilled to welcome Ryan to the team in this critical transformation role.”

In addition to his almost six year stint at Starcom, Menezes has also been head of digital, data and technology at Publicis One, and director of digital communications at Initiative.

“I am really excited to join the GroupM family to build on the strong momentum Cam has achieved,” he said.

“I’m passionate about helping brands and agency partners navigate change by understanding their strategic business challenges and developing digital roadmaps for business transformation. Now more than ever, businesses are looking to quickly evolve in order to stay competitive, relevant and authentic.

“I’m looking forward to working with the amazing talent and market leading digital, technology and commerce solutions in GroupM team to enable digital transformation that’s purpose-built to deliver true business value for clients.”

Lollback also thanked King for his time and work in the role, adding: “Cameron has brought a fundamental shift to our business, setting up our tech and transformation practice within GroupM, and driving our strategy on digital, technology, and data. He is a fantastic operator, with an acute understanding of how to build high performance teams, deliver growth and drive organisation-wide transformation. We wish him the best in the US.”
