Gruen returning next month after two year hiatus seeking ‘bizarre’ regional ads

Gruen Planet walkingABC’s panel series about marketing and advertising Gruen is set to return on September 9 after a two year hiatus.

Wil Anderson will resume the role as host and has also resumes the role of executive producer of the show which he took on after co-creator John Casimir’s move to the ABC from CJZ as head of entertainment.

The show will simply be called Gruen for the forthcoming season with team captains Russel Howcroft and Todd Sampson set to return with a promise of some returning and new guest panelists.

Regular segment The Pitch are set to return whilst the show has also put a call out for viewers to tip them off to any unusual regional ads they might have seen for a new segment.

The show last aired in September and October 2013 as Gruen Nation looking at the spin behind the Federal election before becoming Gruen planet for the rest of its run, finishing with 1.004m metro viewers on October 31.

There had been speculation the show would not return with Network Ten’s Melbourne general manager Russel Howcroft involved in Recipe to Riches, and Leo Burnett CEO Todd Sampson enjoying success with Redesign My Brain. However, the ABC flagged a new series would be made in its 2015 upfronts.
