Gruen, Utopia and Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell to return as ABC reveals 2019 TV plans
In the midst of its leadership crisis and allegations of ‘inappropriate behaviour’ perpetrated by its former chairman Justin Milne, the ABC has revealed its television content plans for the coming year.
Advertising, branding and spin panel show Gruen will return in 2019, along with Anh’s Brush with Fame, Working Dog’s satirical production Utopia, Shaun Micallef’s Mad as Hell, Hard Quiz and The Weekly with Charlie Pickering.
In addition, the broadcaster will screen a new drama by Blackfella Films starring Deborah Mailman and Rachel Griffiths, Black B*tch, which tracks an indigenous woman (Mailman) who is thrust into the national spotlight after a horrific event, and then catapulted into the Senate by the Prime Minister (Griffiths).
Now THAT is an impressive slate of local productions. Well done ABC.
And if scarce ABC funds hadn’t been diverted to ‘Project Jetstream, it would have been even more impressive.
Just wanted to comment on the Hamilton Byrne documentary. Kids in the group who want to tell there story is one thing and they have an absolute right to do so, but this time could those who choose not to participate have their faces blurred please? Many of us haven’t signed releases for our images as children to be used.
By the way, to correct this article, not all of us had our hair dyed blond, as is evident from the many photos and videos that include brunettes and red heads.
Also, the phrase “Children of the Damned ” is very cruel victim bashing. Why is it even being used? “Village of the Damned” is a movie about children who murder people. How is this somehow appropriate or sensitive ( or is this supposed to be funny?) Imo it is both seriously offensive and sick . Personally I have been thinking about putting in a complaint to the Australian Broadcasting Commission about the use of that phrase.Would the author of this article consider removing it please ( or at the very least, explain why they have chosen to imply something so cruel and wrong about us kids?) I realize other articles have used this phrase too, but please think about what you are doing before you blindly copy others, or at least have a good reason for why you are doing it.
