Guardian journalist Paul Farrell to join BuzzFeed
Walkley nominated journalist Paul Farrell will be leaving The Guardian’s Australian operation to join BuzzFeed Australia as a senior reporter.
Farrell joined The Guardian in 2013 and has been nominated for this year’s Public Interest Journalism Young Walkley for leading the outlet’s coverage of The Nauru Files of leaked detention centre documents.
“I’m excited to add someone with Paul’s track record of breaking big stories down under to BuzzFeed’s expanding team of news reporters in 15 countries around the world.” said Buzzfeed News’ Editor-in-Chief, Ben Smith in a media release.
Farrell, who will join Buzzfeed on August 8, has been covering national security, politics and corporate affairs for The Guardian and also collaborated on the Panama Papers project. Earlier this year it was revealed the Australian Federal Police had accessed his phone and email records without a warrant.
“I’m thrilled to be joining BuzzFeed Australia’s fantastic reporting team as it continues to grow and reach more and more people across the country,” said Farrell. “I can’t wait to work on powerful stories and investigations for BuzzFeed that resonate with our audience in Australia and around the world.”
No surprises there, that Guardian and Buzzfeed are exchanging staff. The two outlets frantically try to “out-Lefty” each other on a daily basis. That’s life “inside the bubble” for you!
