Dr Mumbo

Sophie Monk’s selfies and the logo world record challenge

With the crew from the Guiness Book of World Records in attendance Dr Mumbo couldn’t resist setting up a couple of chances to get some of adland’s finest into the record books at this week’s Mumbrella360 conference the Hilton Hotel in Sydney.

The first duo aiming for a place in history alongside the likes of the most surfing Santas and the biggest house of cards were BMF’s Christina Aventi and 303 Mullen Lowe’s Richard Morgan, who bravely put their reputations on the line to try to capture the record for the most number of logos recognised in one minute.

Flanked by the blue-blazered officials from the Guinness Book, Morgan and then Aventi yelled out brand names as a dizzying array of logos flashed by on a screen.

Neither, it appears, fluffed it when presented with a client’s logo, but battled on gamely when presented with some obscure brands.

As time was called, both fell agonisingly short of wearing the label of World’s Best Logo Expert, with Morgan managing two short of the record with 29 and Aventi just one behind on 28. Sadly American Christopher Reilly’s record of 31 set in Florida in April still stands, for now at least.

The second challenge on Thursday morning saw TV and radio host and paparazzi magnet Sophie Monk take to the main stage and turn the camera on herself, attempting to topple Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s record for most selfies taken in three minutes.

Stringent rules for the challenge which would see Monk attempt to take a self portrait with a camera with 160 people in the 180 seconds, included having the face and neck of both in the photo, and the picture must not be blurry.

And what good ad conference wouldn’t be complete without a branding opportunity – with HTC providing the hardware for the effort.

And things got a little meta with people taking selfies of the selfies:

Unfortunately, despite best efforts the attempt fell a little short, meaning Dr Mumbo will have to put Sophie through a selfie bootcamp and try again next year.
