Half a million tune in to watch Samantha Stosur win US Open

Just over half a million people tuned in to Nine watch Australian Samantha Stosur beat Serena Williams in the women’s final of the US Open tennis yesterday morning.

According to preliminary metro ratings from OzTam, the tennis pulled in 508,000 on Nine which was 109,000 ahead of Seven’s Sunrise on at the same time.   

During the tennis, Today was shifted to digital channel Gem where it fetched just 24,000. When it returned to Nine following the tennis it averaged 381,000.

Overall The X Factor won the night with 1.398 million.

The ABC’s Australian Story which centred on former CEO of The Brand Shop Gavin Larkin received 817,000.
