Hamish & Andy to join Southern Cross Austereo’s PodcastOne network

Southern Cross Austereo has announced it will be continuing to work with Hamish Blake and Andy Lee through a new series of podcasts launching next year.

The duo are slated to create original content podcasts for SCA’s podcast platform, PodcastOne, across 2018 and 2019.

In 2016, Blake and Lee announced they would be ending their drivetime show for Southern Cross Austereo’s Hit Network to focus on television. It took the network close to a year to name their replacements.

Blake and Lee’s last radio show with SCA was broadcast on December 1.

The podcast of Blake and Lee’s radio show has achieved more than a quarter of a billion downloads, with nearly 28 million downloads in 2017 alone, making it the most successful Australian podcast of all time.

Grant Tothill, head of PodcastOne said: “Hamish and Andy’s millions of fans won’t miss them – they can still hear Hamish & Andy weekly with their new original podcasts. They will produce two series of 40 podcasts in 2018 and 2019, which will be released first on PodcastOne and then on iTunes.

“Given PodcastOne is a partnership with PodcastOne in the US, Hamish & Andy will now have the opportunity to reach a whole new audience.”

“Previously the podcast has been the radio show, now it is a show purely made for the podcasting format. I mean, it’s going to sound pretty similar, it’s our voices, but it’s cool to be playing 100% in the podcasting world”, said Lee.

“I’m going to have to teach my grandma how to podcast, so the move does not come without its hurdles, but the excitement outweighs the challenges! We can’t wait”, said Blake.

“We also can say things in unison”, said the boys together.

Tothill added: “The boys are a great addition to the PodcastOne family and I’m so pleased that although they may not be on radio for the moment, they’re not leaving SCA.

“PodcastOne listeners are going to love their new shows. And this will be an opportunity for their fans to discover more podcasts from the wide range of podcasts on the PodcastOne network.”
