Harry Potter breaks local box office record

The final episode of the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt2 has posted the highest box office takings for an opening day release in Australia in history.

The film took 7,029, 487 on Wednesday, exceeding previous title holder, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, by 740 thousand, with $6.28million.

The much anticipated film has taken $43 million worldwide.

It’s a win for local behind the lens magicians, Rising Sun Pictures and Animal Logic who both worked on the film.
