Dr Mumbo

Hey Facebook, now’s your chance to become cool again

You know that saying, ‘the grass is always greener on the other side’? Well, in the context of Albo’s social media ban, Dr Mumbo has a great suggestion for Facebook: to make it cool again.

The once-hip platform – which celebrated two decades of existence this year – has arguably dropped off with the youth of the world.

It used to be the platform – if you weren’t using Facebook, you were lame! But now the kids are describing it as “cheugy” – for all you non-Gen Z readers, that apparently means outdated.

Google’s AI assistant tells Dr Mumbo that Facebook is the most popular platform among people over 35 (sorry, boomers), and less than a third of kids in the 16-19 age group use it weekly.

Facebook continues to say it is not dead, and its not just for old people (someone is in denial!) but the proof is in the pudding.

The platform’s aging audience is such a well known fact, that Google’s AI assistant also showed Dr Mumbo a list of ‘Groups for Seniors’ upon initial search (see below if you’re interested)!

Now, while Meta has committed to respecting age limits introduced by the Albanese government, Dr Mumbo suggests it takes this one step further – ban Facebook outright now in line with the legislation, and watch the youth try to flock back in.

Simply put, the kids want what they can’t have. It’s a known fact – anyone with children could vouch for this. Being denied something, only makes them want it more.

It’s rooted in human nature – that innate desire for the unattainable – and that remains true in this context.

Dr Mumbo hypothesises that the youth being denied access to Facebook, could very well make it cool again. So, lead the charge, Facebook! Lean into Dr Mumbo’s smarts.

Say goodbye to competing with Snapchat, TikTok – it’s time to take back what’s rightfully yours!
