HG Nelson fronts AFC Asian Cup Campaign by The Monkeys
HG Nelson is fronting a new campaign created by The Monkeys to promote the AFC Asian Cup which comes to Australia in 2015.
The ads are being aired nationally from this month featuring HG and will include cameos from well known football celebrities including Asian Cup global ambassador Alessandro Del Piero, former Socceroos Brett Emerton, Mark Bosnich and Alan Davidson.
CEO of the AFC Asian Cup local organising committee Michael Brown said HG was the perfect face for the campaign as he was instantly recognisable to fans of all Australian sports.
“He transcends all codes,” said Brown in a release from the Australian Football Federation.
“And his stature underlines the size of the AFC Asian Cup, which will be the biggest football event Australia has ever hosted, with more than half a billion people expected to watch on television.
“The advertisements are a nice blend of Australian humour in the Asian context.
The cup is being billed as the biggest football tournament to be held in Australia with the agency spearheading all marketing around the 23 day event with a target of 500,000 ticket sales.
The tournament is being financially supported by the Australian Government and the NSW, Victorian, Queensland and ACT Governments.

It’s not even the biggest being held at the time; the Cricket World Cup is considerably bigger.
