The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies continues to win at box office

The final part of The Hobbit trilogy, The Battle of Five Armies smashed the box office over the weekend, taking in $6.302m across 605 screens.

The Peter Jackson film has made $23.987m since its premiere on Boxing Day.

Benedict Cumberbatch’s new film The Imitation Game claimed second spot on the box office weekend rankings making $4.187m, taking its total Australian box office to $4.467m.

Kid friendly movie Penguins of Madagascar benefited from the school holidays, pulling in $3.559m across 468 screens while Disney animation Big Hero 6 grabbed $3.157m across 386 screens.

Russell Crowe’s latest film The Water Diviner pulled in $2.739m while Robin Williams’ final movie Night At The Museum: Secret of the Tomb pulled in $2.477m.

Paddington continues to make it into the top ten after making $788,221 across 231 screens while The Hunger Games: The Mockingjay Part One rounded out the top ten after pulling in $563,843. To date the film has made $33.307m at the local box office.

Exodus: Gods & Kings, which stars Australian Joel Edgerton, made $215.421 across 83 screens taking the Ridley Scott film’s total Aussie takings to $8.459m.
