Hopscotch/Entertainment One ink deal with Lakeshore Ent.
Hopscotch/Entertainment One have announced a multiyear output deal with Lakeshore Entertainment, the American independent production company behind Million Dollar Baby, The Lincoln Lawyer, Runaway Bride and The Mothman Prophecies.
The agreement will see Hopscotch/Entertainment One distribute Lakeshore properties in all media across Australia and New Zealand, most likely beginning with Gone, starring Amanda Seyfried and Wes Bentley, expected for February 2012.
In a statement, Managing Director of Hopscotch, Troy Lum said, “We’re thrilled to join forces with Tom Rosenberg, Eric Reid, Gary Lucchesi and the Lakeshore team. Lakeshore consistently produces highly‐commercial product and we’re pleased to be their chosen partner to service it to the Australian and New Zealand marketplace.”
Entertainment One acquired Hopscotch in April for $20 million and solidifies the relationship between eOne and Lakshore, as Tom Rosenberg, Chairman and CEO, Lakeshore Entertainment said in the statement. “eOne has been a trusted partner for us over the past several years and we’re proud to be alongside as their business grows and moves into new territories. Troy and his team have extensive knowledge and expertise in the Australian market and we’re thrilled to work with them as part of the larger eOne family.”
Sad to see Hopscotch veer towards commercial blockbusters and away from arthouse films. Amanda Seyfried? Really? Any indie distributors out there anymore releasing challenging arthouse films or do we have to wait for the film festivals to see those films?

Also good to see them moving away from arthouse towards more commercial fare – no one sees those films anyway, especially Aussie arthouse.
