House Rules only non-news program to crack 1m metro viewers

Seven’s House Rules – which got off to a rocky start this season – has continued its return to form, and was last night the only non-news program to crack the 1m metro viewers mark, according to OzTAM’s overnight preliminary metro ratings.

The reality renovation show debuted at the end of April to a metro audience of 1m, but subsequently struggled against the likes of Ten’s Masterchef and Nine’s The Voice, with the second episode slumping to 606,000

The series has regained traction with audiences over time though and last night placed fifth in the overall metro ratings ladder with 1.026m, behind Seven News (1.131m metro viewers), Nine News’ second half hour at 6:30pm (1.073m), Nine News (1.073) and Seven News’ 6:30pm slot/Today Tonight (1.036m).

Nine’s The Voice and Ten’s Masterchef failed to crack the 1m mark in terms of metro viewers, pulling 989,000 and 936,000 respectively – just behind Nine’s A Current Affair with 948,000.

Ten’s Have You Been Paying Attention? placed 9th for the evening with 859,000, and ABC News rounded out the top 10 with 773,000.

Despite the success of House Rules overall, Have You Been Paying Attention? won the key advertising demographics of 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54, with Masterchef placing second, House Rules third and The Voice fourth.

Nationally, including regional affiliate stations, Seven News won the night with 1.851m and House Rules jumped to second spot on the ladder with 1.704m. Seven’s Home and Away moved into the top 10 with 1.301m and The Chase Australia placed 8th with 1.235m.

Nine narrowly won the evening with a 20.3% audience share, ahead of Seven’s 20.1%, Ten’s 16.1%, ABC’s 13.0% and SBS’ 3.2%.
