Hoyts to open four new IMAX with Laser locations across Australia

Hoyts will open four new IMAX with Laser screens across Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia from November 2025, in time for the year’s biggest movie releases.

HOYTS is turning up the wow-factor this summer with the launch of four brand-new IMAX® with Laser locations across Victoria, New South Wales and Western Australia. The rollout begins mid-November 2025, in time for the year’s biggest movie releases.

The first screen opens at HOYTS Chadstone in mid-November before the highly anticipated Wicked: For Good. Moviegoers can look forward to the ultimate immersive experience with mind-blowing visuals, epic surround sound, and extra-comfy seating.

The new locations and scheduled 2025 opening dates are as follows:

HOYTS Chadstone (VIC) – opening mid-November;

HOYTS Carousel (WA) – opening mid-December;

HOYTS Melbourne Central (VIC) – opening mid-December; and

HOYTS Blacktown (NSW) – opening mid-December.

The HOYTS Group CEO and President Damian Keogh said the addition of four screens featuring IMAX with Laser at these popular sites is part of HOYTS’ commitment to providing outstanding cinema experiences to guests.

“HOYTS is delighted to partner with IMAX to introduce four new screens across Australia, giving movie lovers even more ways to enjoy blockbusters on the big screen,” Damian said.

“By partnering with IMAX, we’re introducing the most advanced cinema technology to four key HOYTS locations. The new IMAX with Laser screens combine dual 4K projection, vivid colour and immersive audio, all enjoyed from seating that ranges from lean-back standard seating to premium recliners.”

IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond said the team is excited to expand their footprint in the thriving Australian cinema market.

“The release of Avatar: Fire and Ash in December — and a tremendous 2026 slate behind it — represent a golden opportunity for IMAX and its exhibition partners around the world,” Rich said.

“HOYTS is wise to capitalise on that opportunity with the opening of four prime new locations across Australia’s leading cinema markets, doubling our network in a country where demand for IMAX is soaring.”

With IMAX with Laser, guests at the four new locations will experience:

Crystal clear IMAX Laser projection – providing increased resolution, sharper and brighter images, deeper contrasts as well as the widest range of colours available to deliver the most life-like visuals

Next-generation IMAX precision sound – delivering perfectly tuned sound, evenly distributed throughout the cinema.

The announcement comes on the heels of HOYTS reigniting its partnership with IMAX – marking the first collaboration between the two since 2019.
