Huawei appoints The Furnace Sydney for $1m creative account

Huawei Devices Australia has appointed The Furnace Sydney as its creative agency following a three-way pitch.

The announcement:

Sydney, 28 March, 2011: Tony Singleton, Managing Director, The Furnace Sydney, announced today that following a three-way competitive pitch, the agency has been awarded Huawei Devices Australia. The account is worth more than $1million in billings and it is the first time anywhere in the world where Huawei will be launched as a consumer brand.

Huawei is the largest networking and telecommunications equipment supplier in China and the second-largest supplier of mobile telecommunications infrastructure equipment in the world (after Ericsson). The telecommunications giant has just beaten European rivals Nokia Siemens Networks and Ericsson to win Vodafone/ Hutchison 3’s mammoth network replacement project.

In Australia Huawei are best known as the manufacturers of mobile internet devices like mobile internet dongles, pocket Wi-Fi, tablets and budget smart phones for established mobile phone carriers like Optus, Telstra, Virgin Mobile and Vodafone/ Hutchison 3.

2011 is going to be a significant year for Huawei Devices Australia with the launch of their Android phone range which, feature for feature, will be significantly better value than any of their competitors.

“We’re really excited to have The Furnace join our team. Their energy, passion and commitment to the brand was evident throughout the process.  Huawei is already an established player in the hugely competitive mobile market and 2011 is going to be a big year for us as we focus on developing and promoting the Huawei consumer brand,” said Mark Treadwell, Marketing Director, Huawei Devices Australia.

“As you can imagine, we are thrilled to be the first agency in the world to launch Huawei’s consumer brand.  The company’s philosophy of giving consumers the latest technology at a price point anyone can afford is certainly going to shake up the market, and gives us a brilliant opportunity to work on a new Challenger brand,” added Tony Singleton.

The Furnace will commence work immediately on a consumer website and brand campaign to launch Huawei’s range of new smart phones.

This latest win adds to the recent gains of Atkins Nutritionals and Warner Bros for The Furnace.
