Hugh Gurney and Joe Sibley take on executive creative director roles for Droga5

Hugh Gurney and Joe Sibley have been announced as the new executive creative directors at Droga5 Melbourne, part of Accenture Song.

The news was shared by the creative agency on Tuesday, with Gurney and Sibley to report into Tara Ford, CCO of Droga5 Australia. The pair will work closely with Milla McPhee, chief strategy officer of Droga5 Australia, and Matt Michael, CEO of Droga5 ANZ.

“Hugh and Joe are tremendous creatives and wonderful leaders of talent, who we’re sure will continue to help create world class work from Droga5 in Melbourne,” Ford said.

Michael added: “Hugh and Joe were our first team in Melbourne and as long-term members of our creative team, we’ve had the chance to see them grow, so it’s a pleasure to have them take roles as Executive Creative Director I Melbourne as we transition into the future as Droga5.”

Gurney and Sibley have worked together on a number of award-winning local projects, including Enter Asahi for Asahi Super Dry, The Greatest for Aussie Beef, and Hello Christmas for Telstra.

“Droga5 make some of the best work in the world, so we jumped at the opportunity,” the pair said in a joint statement.

The appointments come just weeks after The Monkeys officially became Droga5, “with the aim of delivering outsized impact through outsized ambition and provocative thinking”.

The pair have both been with The Monkeys for a number of years in the creative team.

In October, Michael was confirmed to be taking over the Droga5 Australia and New Zealand CEO role from Mark Green (now the Droga5 global CEO), while Bronwyn van der Merwe was revealed as the new Accenture Song lead for Australia and New Zealand.

Green described the new era as a “big moment” and a “very exciting opportunity for the team”.

“We have always wanted to make sure that our people feel like they can make the best work of their careers at The Monkeys,” he said.

“And this has been the case for many years. Now with the transition to Droga5 they can also have the confidence that their best work is also ahead of them.

“I am excited to lead the team into this new era.”
