Icon’s Mark Gooder joins The Weinstein Company

Mark Gooder, who started Icon Films in Australia and is currently CEO of Icon Productions, will join the well-respected US-based The Weinstein Company as president of acquisitions/Australian operations.

Involved in the day-to-day running of the acquisitions department of TWC, from script to features, Gooder’s first major festival and market being the Toronto International Film Festival.

Gooder said: “I’m looking forward to working closely with Harvey and David. I think we share very similar taste in movies, and I feel I can make an important contribution to the continued growth of the company.”

TWC’s COO David Glasser said: “Mark has a proven history for smart and strategic choices when it comes to choosing quality titles, and Dan and Negeen have been responsible for building the incredible slate we have,” TWC COO David Glasser said in making the announcement.”

Gooder started Icon in 2000 before starting up Icon Production in Los Angeles in 2006 while still running the Australian business from the US.

This week Icon won News Limited’s Movie Marketer Award at Australian International Movie Convention’s 2012 Box Office Awards.

Gooder’s move comes after TWC picked up Wayne Blair’s The Sapphires while the film was screening in competition at Cannes.
