If you can’t beat em
It must have been a new experience for Ivy owner Justin Hemmes over the summer when Sydney’s Absolut pool bar in Bondi generated so much buzz, his own pool bar started to sound a bit like yesterday’s venue.
The man behind the successful Absolut PR campaign was Mark Cavanagh. So why is Dr Mumbo not entirely surprised to hear that, according to the SMH, Hemmes has ditched his PR agency Stellar Concepts and given the account to Cavanagh instead.
Successful? Bondi doesn’t think so.
The unbreaable level of noise from this event (you could hear the thumping down on the beach, for god’s sake) created such negative fallout among locals an others down here in the Bondi area that people called in the police and the local council. Legal threats etc resulted in a turning down of the noise and the limiting of the hours.
As far as Bondi is concerned, Hemmes can keep his crap events in the city: The beach has a totally different vibe that he just doesn’t get.
And there’d be stiff local oposition to any redevelopment he might have in mind of the Lamrock cafe site. Though in the current climate ( real estate sales, legal actions and all), it looks pretty unlikely that Justin’ll be doing much for some time.

Successful…! U bet, this thing was the talk of the town and the beach!
I heard about it and I was overseas! I wish I had been able to attend. I got back to Sydney recently and people are still talking about !
As far as I know the only people who objected were the ones who couldn’t get in!

Another Bondibloke- PLEASE – I’m sorry are you a junior PR (you surely could not be a senior PR) working for CavCon/ Absolut or the Hotel in question??? – ridiculous comment and one that so obviously looks like you have an association with the project- you give PR a bad name.
