iiNet $20m media pitch down to two
The media pitch for one of Australia’s biggest internet service providers iiNet is down to two agencies, Mumbrella can reveal.
It is understood that the pitch list is down to incumbent OMD WA who are facing off against rival Initiative for one of the biggest media accounts in the state.
The media pitch was first revealed by Mumbrella back in November, with a shortlist that originally also included Group M agency Mindshare, who later had to withdraw after Foxtel moved its business to the agency, with ZenithOptimedia taking its place.
Presentations in the pitch were made a few weeks ago with the client now understood to be choosing between the two agencies, which both have presences in Perth.
Incumbent OMD WA, which is owned by Marketforce, last week confirmed that its managing director of OMD WA Bob Goodge has departed the media agency after just over a year in the role.
All agencies contacted declined to comment on the media pitch, although a decision on the pitch is expected in the coming weeks.
iiNet had originlly signalled that they were open to agencies outside Western Australia, with a spokesman saying: “As is common practice at iiNet, we asked agencies nationwide. iiNet is a national company with offices in every state.”
In a statement the ISP’s chief operating officer Maryna Fewster said at the time: “As part of a regular review of agencies, iiNet has put our media buying contract out to tender.
“OMD Perth has been our media agency for approximately two years and they, along with a select group of media agencies, will be invited to tender over the coming days.”
In Perth, OMD is part of Marketforce, which also has creative duties for the business after bringing it back from BWM Sydney at the end of 2012.
According to Nielsen, iiNet had an estimated media spend of $19.3m in the 12 months to September and the media review comes at a time when many observers are tipping a marketing war between the major telco players for market share.

Hi Tony,
I’m also a new subscriber to iiNet
But other than 90 minute waits to speak to staff, the installation I paid for failing, the speed being 20% of that advertised, and the undisclosed-ahead-of-time fact that half of the data paid for can only be used between midnight and 6am, it’s been a perfect process.
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
Tim
you you must be one of the lucky ones yer they dont mention peek/ofpeek do they

Hi Guys,
Just wanted my 2 cents in on this…..
Tony the poor speed could be a range of thing including noisy phone line to water in the pit out side your home. have your tried doing some of these things?
Pick up the phone. But not to make a call! Listen for any noise or static on your phone line. Your ADSL service runs through the phone line so any interference on it can greatly affect internet quality (Not applicable on Naked DSL). Here is a guide for troubleshooting phone issues: https://iihelp.iinet.net.au/support/node/2502.
Wi-Fi versus Ethernet. If you are using Wi-Fi with your modem, check if you are having the same problem when you plug a device in with an Ethernet cable – you could have a weak Wi-Fi signal, or something could be interfering. Test your speed (as mentioned earlier) when using both.
Check for viruses or spyware. These are ever-present threats to your digital life and can make life very difficult if unchecked! At the same time, some virus/spyware software can also hinder your internet speeds – you will need to check with software makers or google and see if anyone else is having issues with it and what they have done.
Congestion. Too many cars on the road, or: your kids/siblings/parents/room-mates are downloading the entire internet and not being completely honest about it – as someone who worked in support for several years, this happens much more often than you would think.
Network congestion. This is pretty rare but some areas may have too many people connected to the same equipment, check your speeds during off-peak times to see if it is any better. Peak usage times are usually after work until bedtime, so usually 5pm – 10pm.
Isolation test: Unplug any device that uses a phone socket, handsets, filters, adapters, faxes, pay TV and plug in 1 standard phone handset (if available) and listen for line noise/static again. If it is clear, plug your modem in instead (leave everything else out as well, including the filter) and check your speed. (This step is not applicable if you have Naked DSL.)
Tim as per your comment about speed iinet do say maximum theoretical speed is xyz but unless you live next door to the exchange do not expect this speed.
Speed question answer: Adsl/2/2+ in Australia is determined by the distance(length of the cable) to the exchange and how old the cable is. this also applies to naked dsl connections as they still use the bad copper.
I have been iinet since Jan 2000 started when ADSL was mostly owned by Telstra. But now i have the NBN and speed and reliablity are not longer a issue but for those who can not get the NBN hopefully you can try these things to get your internet quicker. i just hope they roll it out quicker because then the issues of speed go away for everyone and we are not behind the rest of the world on speed.

I have no professional affiliation with IINet, but I feel I do have to leap to their defense. I’ve been with then for about 18months now, and haven’t had one issue. The initial set-up was a breeze (I did get myself a bit confused but picked up phone and someone walked me through it, without any real wait time), my speeds have been lighting fast, I’m on direct debit and billing hasn’t been an issue….all in all as good an operation as I could have hoped for.
Regarding speeds, I’m not sure if geography plays a part but as an FYI I’m in metro Melbourne.

No the spreed was all them Im not a fool I,m doing a Diploma in IT NETWORKING
aand that doent explain the phone being cut off
Its ironic the day I posted the letter to the ombudsman 28 jan that night all came good
well almost the phone worked and net speed was around 5mbs
it the 28th was the billing cycle due date doesnt explain them attacking my bank out of sequence not getting the first month” free with credit” taking a month to get the net running then charge me for a service they havent provided with the phone all you got was dial tone when you dialed a number Ilive in a town called Euroa
when with Telsra we had no such problems exept download limits and there pricing
