The announcement:

IKEA Australia has today announced that Three Drunk Monkeys have been successful in winning the competitive agency pitch which launched in October.

IKEA Marketing Manager Rebecca Darley said that Three Drunk Monkeys impressed the pitch team with their combination of strong strategic thinking, a solid understanding of the retail market and great creative ideas.

“Throughout the process Three Drunk Monkeys demonstrated an ability to bring fresh thinking and new ideas to our business. They have a talented team and we are looking forward to developing their ideas further to help the IKEA brand realise its potential in this market,” said Darley.

IKEA has enjoyed considerable growth over the last several years and is on the cusp of an aggressive expansion plan which will see two new stores open in late 2011 (one in Sydney and one in Melbourne) and a total of nine stores by 2015.

“With the addition of two new stores, both considerably larger than our existing outlets, IKEA’s business will grow dramatically over the next several years and we are excited about working with Three Drunk Monkeys to develop a strategy that will take us to the next level” concluded Darley.

Mark Green, Managing Director, Three Drunk Monkeys echoed the brand’s Australian potential. “We are really excited about the opportunity to work with Ikea. It is a great brand with a history of doing interesting work worldwide. The growing local business will provide a fantastic opportunity to continue to raise the profile of Ikea in Australia”.

Three Drunk Monkeys will commence work on the IKEA account on 1 January and outgoing agency, Host will continue on the business until the end of January. IKEA’s existing relationships with Match, Mediacom, Lavender and One Green Bean will remain unchanged.
