I’m a Celebrity absence sees Ten’s share tumble as ABC news special on Malcolm Fraser draws 548,000
Channel Ten’s share of TV viewers almost halved last night from the previous Sunday as the absence of I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here saw its audience slip below 10 per cent on a dismal night for the network.
Last Sunday the final of I’m a Celebrity saw Ten take 17.7 per cent. But its share last night tumbled to 9.9 per cent, with Shark Tank’s metro audience at 7.30pm collapsing from 973,000 last week – later corrected to 856,000 to account for the overrunning of I’m a Celebrity – to 638,000.
Ten’s US musical drama series Empire, which aired at 9.30pm, attracted a paltry 142,000 – making it the 75th most watched show of the evening, whilst two new episodes of sitcom Modern Family from 7.30pm managed 486,000 and 565,000 viewers respectively.
Nine won the night with a share of almost 24 per cent, helped by another strong showing for a resurgent The Block Triple Threat which drew 1.13m, rising to 1.26m for the Room Reveal. They were the two most watched non-news shows of Sunday with 60 Minutes, which aired directly after The Block attracting 1.02m.
The network’s coverage of the NRL game between the Rabbitohs and the West Tigers was seen by 340,000 Sydney viewers and 134,000 in Brisbane.
The ABC News special on former PM Malcolm Fraser, which clashed with The Block, drew 548,000.
Over on Seven, Downton Abbey at 9pm was viewed by 848,000, down 31,000 on last Sunday’s outing, while Australia: The Story of Us also fell away slightly, down from 894,000 to 866,000.
Nine took the news honours with 1.15m metro viewers tuning in for the 6pm bulletin, just ahead of Seven’s 1.13m.

I’m thinking – what with all the LOL cats on YouTube, and similar click bait, why would even as many as 140,000 waste their time on Ten??
