Industry body PRIA cancels its upcoming events and moves to develop webinars

Public relations industry body PRIA has cancelled its upcoming face-to-face events, following the government’s recent ban on indoor events over 100 people to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus).

A statement from national president, Leigh McClusky, said PRIA’s priority is to continue support its members’ professional endeavours, and the organisation is working towards interactive webinar solutions.

“As we are all very well aware, these are historic and concerning times for all of us, as we deal with the unfolding realities of a world trying to cope with COVID-19,” McClusky stated.

“At PRIA we are committed to supporting you during these trying times, as your daily work routines and demands, potentially change and evolve.

“Given our F2F events are no longer viable at this point in time, we are moving rapidly to develop and deliver a range of interactive webinars to bring you professional and realistic, advice and support.”

The webinars will cover topics that will support members in their changing work environments, including rights and responsibilities of employees and employers, tips for working from home, maintaining mental health and the financial implications for small businesses.

The webinars will require a ‘modest fee’ for members and non-members as PRIA’s ability to generate income through events is now compromised, it said.

McClusky also called for members to raise other areas of interest that the they would like assistance with.

Future webinars will also deliver broader training modules.

McClusky concluded her statement: “In the meantime, please follow all appropriate and sensible medical directives to ensure the best health of yourselves, your team members and your families.”
