Intermedia wins The Farmer publishing account

The Farmer, a custom publication produced on behalf of NSW Farmers, will now be published by Sydney-based The Intermedia Group.

The title was launched by Medium Rare in 2018 with former The Australian Women’s Weekly managing editor, Michelle Endacott, at the helm.

Intermedia is currently recruiting for a new editor and journalists for the title. Ben Payne will take on the role of sales director, joining from Seven West Media where he was national Sydney sales manager for metro and regional newspapers.

Intermedia Group publisher James Wells said The Farmer is a unique publication targeted at an important sector of the Australian economy.

“The Farmer provides farmers in New South Wales with a regular update on innovative farming practices and business operations throughout the state as well as the people, places and personalities that represent the core of the New South Wales agricultural community,” said Wells.

“One third of all farm businesses in Australia are in New South Wales and the growth in smaller farm businesses and boutique rural producers is increasingly rapidly. Annual agricultural production represents over $15bn in New South Wales alone and generates a quarter of the gross value of agri-production nationally.

“The Farmer has proven itself as a well-regarded publication for hard-to-reach individuals that produce a diverse range of food and fibre commodities and invest strongly in regional communities. Its content appeals to farmers and regional businesses of all shapes and sizes, from corporate farms, family farms as well as small businesses and smaller lifestyle properties.”

The next edition of The Farmer, the first from Intermedia, will celebrate the title’s second anniversary.

NSW Farmers CEO Pete Arkle said The Farmer has become a mainstay of farming life.

“It is a publication that is read cover to cover. A readership survey showed that three in four readers share their issue with family and friends and many copies have also been provided to local schools and rural Airbnbs,” Arkle said.

“The Farmer has won numerous awards and also received international recognition. Politicians are taking notice too, with mentions in Question Time and in our meetings with Ministers, helping to keep the values of agriculture front of mind.”
