IPG Mediabrands’ Magna appoints managing director almost a year after the departure of Victor Corones

IPG Mediabrands’ CEO Mark Coad has appointed Nick Durrant to the role of managing director of Magna.

Magna is the group’s media intelligence and investments division, described on its website as ‘the centralised Mediabrands resource that develops intelligence, investment and innovation strategies for agency teams and clients.

Durrant picks up leadership of the business after almost a year without a specific leader following the departure of Victor Corones in May 2020.

“Nick and the senior team at Magna have been a leading light for Mediabrands in navigating the most extraordinary year in the history of media,” Coad said. “We recall the immense uncertainties as we were drawn into the COVID crisis and Magna is a big reason we have navigated our way confidently through the twists and turns.

“Nick will be an effective leader for Magna in collaboration with the skills sets within the group and our client and investment leaders across Mediabrands. He will also be joining the Mediabrands’ executive leadership team.”

“I am very grateful to Mark for his confidence in the MAGNA team,” Durrant said in a statement. “We have clear opportunities to radically evolve our investment product, taking full advantage of the dramatic shifts in consumer behaviour we have seen over the past 18 months. I am delighted that I will be able to play a part in shaping how Mediabrands harness these changes to accelerate returns for our clients.”

Durrant joined IPG Mediabrands in October 2017 having moved from News Corp Australia where he was the head of trading.

At IPG Mediabrands he initially worked with Initiative as the chief partnerships and investment officer before switching to Magna as the general manager of investments.
