Jack Irish creators start work on new production

Essential Media has started work on a new ABC telemovie.

The Broken Shore is being produced by Ian Collie, who worked on Jack Irish, Rake and SeaChange,  and Andrew Knight.

This is the second time Essential Media has taken to adapting work from Peter Temple, who also wrote Jack Irish. The Broken Shore is being filmed in Melbourne.

“The creative team at Essential Media bring a strong cinematic vision to the work,” says Carole Sklan, Head of ABC TV Fiction. “It’s a dark story infused with wit and humanity.”

Don Hany (Devil’s Dust, Offspring, East West 101) stars as Joe Cashin, a Homicide Detective transferred to the small Victorian coastal town of Port Monro where he grew up.

When wealthy benefactor Charles Bourgoyne (Ralph Cotterill) dies, Joe’s investigation uncovers a cycle of lies, betrayal and systematic corruption in a community where tensions over race, class and politics are at boiling point.
