jodie sangsterThe Australian Direct Marketing Association, one of Australia’s biggest industry bodies, has named former member of staff Jodie Sangster as its next CEO when Rob Edwards steps down in June.

Sangster will move from her current role in the US where she is senior vice president of education and global development at the Direct Marketing Association.

Speaking from New york, she today told Mumbrella: “The good thing is that the aossication is in great shape so there is not stuff that needs to be fixed.

“The focus will be to push into the new technology and make sure that we are really talking about direct marketing as a multiplatform approach. It’s about data and being customer centric.”

She said that a key area will be the global debate around privacy and its regulation. She said: ‘This is becoming a regulatory challenge around the world.”

Sangster has also worked for the UK Direct Marketing Association as well as a stint as ADMA’s director of legal and regulatory affairs during the period of the creation of legislation such as the Spam Act, and the Do Not Call Register.

ADMA chairman Tony Davis said Sangster’s appointment came after a six month search. He said: “There have been a number of outstanding candidates in consideration however Jodie was uniquely placed to take on the job as CEO. Given her previous role with ADMA, her continued participation in the work of the association, the international perspective she’s gained with our UK and US counterparts and the high regard in which she has always been held by the marketing community, there is no-one more qualified for this position and no better hands into which it could be entrusted.”

Edwards, said: “Having worked closely with Jodie during her time at ADMA, and providing the introduction to the DMA that saw her take up her current role, I’m delighted to be able to pass her the baton and looking forward to seeing the great things I know she will do in the years to come.”
