Julian Assange dons mullet for You’re The Voice remake

Wikileaks founder and political activist Julian Assange has donned a mullet wig and lip synched to a new version of John Farnham’s The Voice as part of his campaign to be elected to the Senate.

The creators of Juice Rap News – the Melbourne-based Giordano Nanni and Hugo Farrant also persuaded Assange to don a headband and green-and-gold Australian singlet.

The lyrics of the reworked song refer to leaks and wire tapping.

(Assange appears from 3:30):

The video channel Juice Rap News describes itself as “the internet nation’s off-beat musical, current-affairs programme, responsible for turning bollocks-news into socio-poetic/comedic analyses which everyone can relate to and understand”.

The lyrics:

We have the chance to the turn the pages over,

We can write what we want to write,

We gotta make things leak , so we can get much bolder

We’re all wire tapped now,

We’re all being fed lies,

Not long till we get all of the rats out,

Once we turn on all the lights

You’re the light that the world’s demanding

Make it bright and make things clear, oh, woah

We’re not going to sit in darkness,

We’re not gonna live with fear, oh, woah

Assange is not the only politician who has been willing to step out of their comfort zone during the election  in order to find an audience. Craig Emerson re-performed Wyalla Wipeout for The Hamster Decides, and Clive Palmer delivered an ode to pies on Wednesday Night Fever.
