Justice League cracks $8m in first weekend at box office
New DC Comics film Justice League finished its first weekend at Australia’s box office with more than $8m in earnings across 729 screens.
The latest superhero film sees Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and the Flash attempt to save the world from a newly awakened enemy. It made $8.088m over the weekend.
It was a big win from the film which did not prove as much of a success in North America – collecting US$96m (AU$127) in its first weekend.
However it did not crack the $10m in its first weekend, unlike rival comics film Thor: Ragnarok.
Meanwhile, Johnny Depp’s new film Murder On The Orient Express came in second place, collecting another $2.703m at the weekend box office across 380 screens.
So far the film has made $29.605m at the Australian box office.
In third place was Marvel film Thor: Ragnarok, grossing $2.006m across 380 screens. The film has made just short of $29.605m in three weeks.
Bad Moms 2 dipped from third to fourth place this weekend, pulling in $1.069m across 290 venues, and Studiocanal’s Jigsaw finished the week with $218,362 in earnings.
So far the film has made $2.329m.
