KFC chooses Kentucky, NSW as location for new product launch
Fast food chicken chain KFC has chosen the town of Kentucky, NSW as the launch location for a new addition to its menu.
The town of 311 residents – which are the stars of a TV ad to launch tomorrow – was the first to try KFC’s Sweet Sesame Crunch before it was made available to the general public.
KFC’s CMO Nikki Lawson said in a statement: “KFC founder Colonel Harland Sanders started out by offering his delicious chicken to local Corbin Kentucky US residents and passers-by back in 1929. We were really excited to reinvigorate this heritage offering and provide Kentucky, NSW residents with an exclusive opportunity to try our latest chicken creation. We had a great turn-out for the commercial and the feedback on our new Sweet Sesame Crunch chicken was outstanding. We can’t wait to share this new recipe with all Australians.”
The brainchild of the campaign idea was Ogilvy Sydney, with PR by Edelman and media by MediaCom.
The news comes a week after KFC announced it was to bring back controversial burger The Double. The bun-less burger was available for just two days, on 27 and 28 June.
They killed ‘Kentucky’ with ‘KFC’ as soon as I kicked the bucket (pun intended). Now they’re celebrating it?

I’m wondering if the poor old residents of Kentucky were actually paid in cash as extras in the production of this commercial, or with buckets of chicken, or with SFA? Not much of an incentive to be the first Aussies to ‘reinvigorate KFC’s hertiage’ and munch down on this crap!

agree with harland, it seems a strange thing to bring “kentucky” to the fore once more after trying so hard to bury it (or the “fried” bit) with KFC. i prefer the name we used for it as kids – “kenfucky tried”

Saw this link about 15 seconds before I saw this story; link below:-
KFC: STOP DESTROYING TIGERS’ HABITAT BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE
What’s in KFC’s secret recipe? Mashed-up bits of rainforest. Researchers have found that KFC’s throw-away packaging contains fiber from Indonesia’s remaining lush rainforests, home to the world’s smallest tiger, the critically-endangered Sumatran tiger.
Ten percent of the world’s remaining tropical forest is found in Indonesia, and KFC is destroying it — the habitat of the last remaining Sumatran tigers — to make buckets for fast-food fries and chicken.

Virgin Mobile launched its downright awful Robin da Hoodie campaign from Sherlock in Queensland.

Next thing we know we could have:
– Pedigree Chum ad’s from Dog Swamp (WA)
– Kleenex ad’s from Innaloo (WA) or Poowong (VIC) or Wonglepong (QLD)
– Oranges from erm, Orange (NSW)
– Bonds Bra ad’s in Tittybong (VIC)
– Wineglass ad’s from Wineglass Bay (Tas)
I dare not think what could be advertised at: Yorkeys Knob, Rooty Hill, Delicate Nobby or Mount Buggery..?
If it were spelt differently, perhaps Kentucky Fried Chicken adverts could have been made in Foul Bay (SA)…

So Virgin Mobile launch Robin Hood in Sherlock in QLD, NiB tells young Aussies they should get health cover by visiting and filming an ad in Young, NSW and now KFC goes to Kentucky in NSW.
Perhaps somewhere at the bottom of that chicken bucket is an original idea.

Very similar idea to Speed Kills (even visual style & grade)….

Total rip off of the excellent “Peru, Nebraska” campaign from the Peruvian Tourism Office launched last year. Have a look. The campaign is well worth seeing too:

I also grew up in Kentucky NSW and just love this ad. Do you know how many times over my life when asked where I came from it was always compared to KFC and nobody ever knew it existed. It has put the area on the map.

I grew up in Kentucky in the 1950’s with my Dad as the local school teacher. It was a thriving fruit growing area and over the years it has seen the loss of 1000’s of fruit trees and the railway. If this brings life back into this quaint little village then I am all for it.

My Mum lived in Woolbrook in the 1980’s and for many years my family & I would drive from Brisbane to visit her and would drive through Kentucky late at night and the highlight of the trip for my three young children would be looking for rabbits on the road around Kentucky. We all think it is a great ad.

I drove through Kentucky 2 weeks ago on my way back to Sydney from a visit to Armidale. The new England area of NSW is really worth visiting if you haven’t been.
I can remember thinking how great it was that there was no big ugly corporate fast food signs anywhere to be seen around Kentucky.

Let’s have a community reunion! And KFC can cater. How good would that be? I and my family think it is great to see kentucky on the map. And so very happy to see Les Ford. Proud of you Mr Ford. Kentuckey N.S.W has a very special place in many hearts that have left the area to peruse their career. K F C was founded in 1930 when our parents and grandparents were founding kentucky N.S.W. I think we have something to celebrate! I have always felt proud to be a Kentuckyan!

Removing unsightly American brands, such as the golden arches and Colonel Sanders from the gorgeous landscape would make the New England area even more picturesque.
Kentucky NSW was built by rough, tough, pioneers and I sure hope that Kentucky remains a nice, small tranquil place to visit for years to come.
Having American junk food brands, blotting the landscape really gets up my nose.
